Behind the Design

Patina of the Streets is Tustin & Chow designer and co-founder Macy Chow’s tribute to the old buildings and streets of her hometown; Hong Kong. The design is an original hand painted work by Macy.

“Nestled amongst the towering skyscrapers of Hong Kong are unsuspecting streets, nooks and crannies that recall a different time. In contrast to the city’s image of rapid change and steely buildings, the old alleyways and few old structures that remain are a reminder of its industrious history.

Having become distressed by the unrelenting heat and humidity of the city, almost all that is clad in paint acquires a charming patina that is often overlooked, yet very much part of the mood and visual identity of Hong Kong. It is the glimpses behind the layers of paint that really tell the story of the place.”
